Truth, most of us want to believe that we “value” truth. Do we?
Do We Even Care?
When egos are inflated and being right is more important – truth gets lost somewhere in between. Years of “just living,” choosing not to reflect at the pain points in the relationship – someone’s truth is shoved under the rug to keep “peace.” Messages and posts are shared without verification; truth is massacred just like that, with each share. Daughter of Pakistan, Aafia Siddiqui, is taken and our response is “don’t search her name” – and we claim, we care.
Are We Ready?
Ready to face the Truth about ourselves, within our relationships and about the world around us?
In my coaching practice, I have to evaluate if the client is ready to hear what they need to hear. Sometimes it takes months before they can truly appreciate when I hold up the mirror for them. Those that “claim” that they are “ready” are almost always the ones that start fighting with me once the mirror is held in front of them – and I have to remind them they can either choose to see it now or we’ll have the same conversation after 2 months. It’s not easy to face truths about ourselves. But it’s only after that’s done, people experience transformation in their lives.
We all know somebody that we believe should not be in the relationship they so desperately are holding onto. For those of us that care more and aren’t trained, may become that pushy friend that will eventually get blocked because the one hurting isn’t ready to face the truth about their relationship.
Face in the sand, most of us American Immigrants act like if we can hide deep enough world around won’t affect us. I guess not facing truth about the world around us is now haunting us every time we stand in a gas station. Are we still not ready to face the truth?
Who Pays the Price?
Whether it be standing in front of the mirror after accepting our own deepest darkest truths or sitting with the truth of a relationship we are not prepared to let go of or investigative journalists being assassinated – There is ALWAYS a Price attached to the truth.
We walk around acting like truth is our birth right from the world, but we ourselves don’t send truth out in the world. We are not willing to pay the price for truth.
As a Communications major, if I turn towards journalism or civil rights advocacy my bank account and safety would look drastically different than me going towards business communications and marketing. That tells you something about us as people. We value consumerism, not truth.
Truth requires Courage.
As always, goal is not to tell my readers what to think, rather to encourage reflection.
Ask yourself do YOU have Courage for Truth?
